We treat these conditions using manipulation, flexion distraction (a form of manual traction), stretching, soft tissue techniques and instrument manipulation. The type of care depends on the condition, the age of the patient and the general health of the patient.
We also use certain types of therapies such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation and intermittent traction to speed up recovery and reduce pain. Exercises are given to strengthen and stabilize the involved area(s). Not every patient needs therapy and those that do usually only need one.
Treatment length depends on the condition being treated, the age of the patient and how long the patient has had the problem. You could receive as few as 2 or 3 treatments for a simple condition such as a stiff neck or up to 12-15 treatments for a protruding disc with leg pain.
